Le Tour is probably the best area for beginners in Chamonix, there are plenty of blues and greens. The Reds are not too much steeper than the blues. If you want something more technical then the north face that drops off toward Vallorcine provides plenty of mixed terrain, from steeper chutes to tree runs, it is the favourite area of many. the Views of the Emmosson Dam in Switzerland are spectacular!
Off piste is aplenty here, and by dropping off the back of the Col Du Balm you have a glorious ride over the French Swiss boarder in to the Swiss village of Trient, there is a railway station not far to get you back into La Tour or Chamonix. Another route that is well worth it is to get to the summit of the Trient Glacier, with views of Mont Blanc all the way through to the Matterhorn, Monte Rossa and the Jungfrau, you may think you could reach out and touch the whole of the higher peaks of the alps! This does involve a serious back country hike and should not be attempted without a Guide.
